A week long celebration of the written and spoken word Oldham’s Bookmark Festival has collected a host of events to cater for readers of all tastes and genres. This year’s line up includes a Poet Laureate, successful authors, spooky tales and karaoke. Oldham Library hosts Carol Ann Duffy (pictured), the aforementioned Poet Laureate, who is joined by musician John A Sampson for a combination of harmonising verse and music, on Tuesday 22 April. For World Book Night the following night author Jane Costello will be speaking about her latest novel The Time of Our Lives, and get your singing voice ready for The Soldier’s Song, a chance to duet with a currently serving soldier, a free activity that runs throughout the festival. A festival for young and old with a passion for literature well worth a short trip on the Metrolink.
