Salford Sonic Fusion Festival returns next month to celebrate cutting-edge music explorations from around the globe. A wide variety of sonic experiences are planned, from traditional recitals in many musical genres, to immersive sound-art, and interactive audio-visual works. Also, noted international speakers will be discussing the festival’s theme of ‘Zoomusicology’ – the interplay between animals and human music. The festival begins at Salford University’s MediaCity campus, where stand-out performers include Patchwork Rattlebag, a local indie-electric band. For the final two days, the event expands to several venues in the Crescent area of the city. Here, highlights will include percussionist Evaristo Aguilar and chamber orchestra Manchester Camerata. The closing gig, taking place at the Uni’s Peel Hall, will feature an eclectic bill of everything from brass bands to dance DJs. The headliner is Zufallig, an indie/dance act featuring Steve Hellier, formerly of Death in Vegas.
