The Solita restaurant brand seems to be going from strength to strength at the moment, after their third outlet opened in Prestwich last night (Thu 20 Aug) with another branch planned for Deansgate’s Barton Arcade later in the year. Owners Simon Pogson and Franco Sotgiu have taken over the curry house next door to the former Aumbry outlet in Prestwich and the new North Manchester site is now a spick and span 100-cover-plus restaurant and bar. Low lighting, white tiles and bar-style seating is a theme. The original Solita opened in the Northern Quarter under three years ago, and its American-style cuisine was a hit with food critics and the public alike. Its burgers are often voted to be among the best in Manchester. They are particularly well known for creations like the Big Manc burger (£14.90) which includes two chuck steak burgers served with brioche, iceberg, pickles, Monterey Jack cheese and lashings of sauce. We don’t know anyone who has finished one. A second restaurant followed in Didsbury in Autumn 2014 – read our story here.
