Through The Mill is a two day celebration of Ancoats culture, looking to the future and delving into its architectural, industrial and social history. Consisting of two nights of live music at St Peter’s Church, walking tours, films, comedy, food and beer, the festival’s having a good go at catering for all tastes. Friday evening is kicked off with an opening ceremony, music and a spoken word performance of post-Peterloo poem The Mask Of Anarchy, with classical backing. Psychedelic Disco Tech then take an after party into the wee hours at 1 Primrose Street. Saturday consists of free tours, talks (including a look at the Italian history of the area), fashion shows and activities for kids, plus a Northern Soul dance class. Saturday evening sees bands aplenty at St Peter’s, spoken word from Chris Jam and friends at St Michael’s, and a barn dance. A great opportunity to find out more about the soul of an area in the midst of its regeneration.
