It’s that time of year again when Manchester Food & Drink Festival (MFDF), a nationally acclaimed event whose 17 years of action has seen it develop to its fine state today, shows locals and visitors alike the sheer culinary talent, expertise and innovation our great city can offer. Local favourites all over Greater Manchester, for a week and a half, will play host to its many events – and here are our top picks…

Streetfood at the Hub, the First Session
It seems our relationship with street food is showing no signs of faltering and so the ol’ ball and chain gets some well-earned limelight through a specially MFDF-curated list. Operators from far and wide (of the UK) will land for the event, as well as local restaurants and chefs getting a piece of the action. Once again the historic Albert Square will act as chief hub for the event, becoming a haven of gratifying grub.
Thu 18 – Tue 23 Sep, Albert Square, Peter Street, M2 5DB, FREE entry, www.foodanddrinkfestival.com

MFDF Masterclasses
Is it time you had something (else) to be smug about? If you can relate all too much to having to endure the boastful remarks of someone who claims could topple Simon Rogan from his throne, then these MFDF masterclasses have your name on them. Set in the new Festival Masterclass Marquee, you will come out of it the beholder of a wealth of kitchen skills after the informal and interactive sessions.
Fri 19 – Sun 21 Sep, Albert Square, Peter Street, M2 5DB, FREE, www.foodanddrinkfestival.com

Become a Spirits Master with The Liquor Market & The Drinks Enthusiast

A ticket gets you a sampling glass then you’re free to roam; some of the UK’s best brand ambassadors will be on hand to deliver exotic samples with equally exotic backgrounds of their spirit. It will also entitle you access to after party, hosted by Elixir from 6-8pm, complete with canapés.
