At one time you couldn’t get a reliable coffee in the city centre, then Teacup and North Tea Power came along, followed by a host of other decent cafés. With another three new openings in the city’s creative hub, you’re now no more than 200ft away from a decent cup of joe. Here’s our round-up of the latest offerings:

Foundation Coffee House (pictured)
Taking the title of the largest independent coffee shop in Manchester, Foundation on Lever Street is massive, minimalist and the kind of place you can stay all day. As you’d expect from the city’s biggest coffee outlet, there are plenty of different brews on offer – including ‘Bulletproof Coffee’, made with an Americano and butter. Food comes from Levenshulme’s favourite bakery Trove, who provide a seasonal menu of sandwiches, cakes and pastries.

Incognito
Incognito, the Northern Quarter’s other craft and gift shop (opposite Fred Aldous), has recently added coffee to its offering of refurbished polaroid cameras, quirky gadgets and arty gifts. As well as fresh brews, it also has crepes, quesadillas, pancakes and toasties. And what’s more, coffees are free when you buy one.

Ezra & Gil
With a name that roughly translates as ‘helping happiness’, Ezra & Gil is another independent cafe set to brightening up the Northern Quarter with its quality beans – which they refer to as ‘urban coffee’. It’s not only the brews that define this space though: the team behind the venture aim to feed all the senses with their love of great food and relaxing interiors. It’s not quite open yet – check out the website below for updates.
