This week sees the return of the acclaimed play War Horse to The Lowry. To celebrate, Manchester’s Central Library is hosting ‘War Horse Close Up’, a day of activities and workshops centred on the play and its setting of World War I. Joey (pictured), the life-sized puppet ‘star’ of the play, will be in attendance between 10am and noon, before he gallops back to Salford in time for the matinee show. The rest of Saturday’s event is mostly ‘drop in’, except for two special events hosted by the National Theatre: a storytelling session (11am – 12pm); and a drama workshop for children aged 7 to 11 (1pm – 3pm). This event is, in part, to celebrate the launch of the Library’s WWI archive for this year’s centenary commemorations.
