Curated by Manchester legends, DJ duo The Unabombers (Luke Cowdrey and Justin Crawford), The Electric Weekender is a three-day celebration of music, art and food. Taking place over the end of May bank holiday weekend at the Refuge in the Principal Hotel, the event brings together a DJ set from the iconic New York City DJ Francois K who will be hosting a New York loft style party in a basement (Fri 26 May – ticketed), a proper old pub knees-up with lashings of guest craft beers on the Saturday (27 May – free) and an all-day Sunday Balearic session (28 May – free) to get you in the mood for summer on the White Isle. Francois K is a particularly big deal – and for this special party, he’ll be playing a Paradise Garage set in the Refuge basement, harking back to his time as a DJ in New York 1977-87 in one of the city’s most legendary clubs. He’s supported in the bar by Sheffield’s most esteemed DJs, Chris Duckenfield. Other attractions include a ‘summer of love’ street party with Croatian Festival Love International, as well as a weekend-long art exhibition by producer / artist Justin Robertson. Entitled The Explorer’s Chronicle, Robertson’s new artworks were inspired by the shelves of a long-dead explorer and much like his music, they celebrates the possibilities of the imagination. He will also be performing a DJ set on Sunday. To celebrate this big weekend at the Refuge, we’ve got two tickets up for grabs to Francois K in the Basement as well as a signed Justin Robertson poster, the book and soundtrack that accompany the Explorer’s Chronicle exhibition and a limited edition tote bag.
