Sounds From The Other City festival returns at the start of May to signal the start of summer. Part art show, part ramble, part gig and part party, it’s an event like no other. And we’re delighted to announce that we’ve got two tickets to give away to the festival, which returns to the Chapel Street area on Sunday 1 May 2016. The first names of 2016’s SFTOC line-up have been announced with acts playing across 16 stages including former Race Horses frontman Meilyr Jones, plus one of the most hotly tipped bands of 2016, Pumarosa, the critically acclaimed cosmic pop of Gwenno, Chrononautz’s outsider techno and Laura Cannell, one of the UK’s finest exponents of modern folk and avant garde composition. With the festival route featuring pubs like the Kings Arms, secret beer gardens, abandoned railway arches, social centres, churches and art galleries, other highlights include Bristolian heavy hitters, Anthroprophh, French industrial techno guitarist Terrine, Full Time Hobby’s The Magnetic North, Bella Union signings exmagician – plus a return for the much loved Charles Hayward, fresh from his reunion shows with This Heat. There is always an aftershow party that’s almost as epic as the event itself – and this year the theme is ‘the sea captain’s ball’, with a parade and costumes and visual curation by artist and designer Paul Hallows. That’s on top of food and beer from Greater Manchester’s leading pop-ups and brewers, with many more interventions in between.

This competition has now closed.
