The opening notes of Beethoven’s Fifth make up the most iconic motif in all of classical music – but there’s more to the piece than Da-Da-Da-DUM, as three concerts taking place at The Bridgewater Hall with the Hallé in March will prove. Beyond the Score is not merely a performance but also a ‘dramatic exploration’ of this iconic work. Live acting, musical excerpts and visual projections will be used to tell the story of Beethoven’s art and illuminate the world that shaped the music’s creation. After the interval, the audience will hear the complete symphony performed by the Hallé Orchestra and conducted by rising star Gergely Madaras. It’s hoped both neophytes and classical devotees will gain a new appreciation of the piece. These events are part of a cycle by the Hallé and the BBC Philharmonic which celebrate 250 years since the birth of Beethoven. They are performing all the great man’s symphonies in the coming months. Actors appearing in this performance will differ from those featured in the image above which was taken from a previous show. Student tickets are available from £3 and under 30s can get 15% off their booking.
