Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth are coming to Manchester for the first time, thanks to hip hop mainstays More Bounce, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of their first work together. After 1991’s All Souled Out EP, they released the album Mecca and The Soul Brother in 1992 – and it subsequently became a staple of the soul-sampling Golden Era sound, uniting a genius beat-maker with a natural MC, although the journey wasn’t to last past 1994’s The Main Ingredient. The Chocolate Boy Wonder Pete Rock continued to produce over the years (for the likes of Kanye, Nas, Biggie and Public Enemy to name a select few) and in recent times, MPC in hand, was the one-man band for Roy Ayers in a great meeting of minds. His Petestrumentals albums have also continued to court that Golden Era flava. C.L. has been more on the down low, yet never totally absent from the scene. Although they split over creative differences back in 1994, now the day has come that most hip-hop heads have only dreamt about: a reconciliation, and on the road. An absolute must.
