Thanks to Budweiser and its corporate ilk, many people have a pretty dim view of American beer. This is an image that the Port Street Beer House aims to counter (and then some) with a festival celebrating some of the USA’s best smaller breweries. The six-day event – encompassing Independence Day – will present a range of craft ales, including Odell, Sierra Nevada and Flying Dog among many others. Meet the Bottle will open the festival (Tue 1 Jul, 7pm, £20), a tasting event hosted by American beer expert Jeremy Stull of the Northern Quarter’s specialist booze emporium Beermoth. Jeremy will guide attendees through a carefully-selected range of bottles from Stateside. Tickets for this event cost £20, and spaces are limited.

Tue 1 – Sun 6 Jul, Port Street Beer House, 39-41 Port Street, M1 2EQ, Tel: 0161 237 9949, FREE entry (£20 for Meet the Bottle), www.portstreetbeerhouse.co.uk
