Following Bjork’s live show at Castlefield Bowl in 2015, Manchester International Festival returns with another massive name from the world of music. This year, it’s the turn of indie kings and queens, Arcade Fire, who will fill the canal-side outdoor arena with their Grammy-winning, Glastonbury-conquering sounds. The band’s four studio albums to date include debut release Funeral and 2015’s Reflektor. Most recently, members of the band alongside collaborator Owen Pallett were Oscar-nominated for penning the Her movie soundtrack. Yet somehow the Canadian collective retain the appearance of throwing things together (albeit expertly) on stage, lending their shows a fabulous immediacy. Expect this one to sell out. A handful of other MIF17 shows are already on sale here – but this is by far the most mainstream act unveiled so far. The full MiF17 programme is released on Thursday 9 March. Tickets for Arcade Fire go on sale on Friday 17 February at 9am.
