The memory of the revered beats merchant J Dilla lives on as the Abstract Orchestra hip hop big band returns to Band on the Wall to pay further tribute to the seminal producer. Boasting a 16-piece live band comprising saxophone, trombones, drums, keys, guitars and vocalists, Abstract Orchestra keep the Dilla flame burning bright alongside other classics of the genre. Arranged by Haggis Horns’ sax player Rob Mitchell, the band follow in the footsteps of Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’s deftness for playing sampled songs with live instrumentation. Local hip hop encyclopedias Taste The Diffrence and Jamie Groovement are on the ones and twos in support.
