Having spent a couple of years quite happily plodding along as a teaching assistant, Daniel Woolhouse decided it was time for a change. He recorded a couple of bedroom demos, stuck them on MySpace (remember that?) and – well, fast forward a couple of years and he’s released one of the most affecting albums of 2013 in Life After Defo, earned himself critical acclaim and fans around the world. His performance earlier in the year for Sounds from the Other City was gloriously understated – and masterclass in minimalism. There were some complaints about the soundsystem that day – despite the strength of his stripped back sound, the tipsy masses huddled at the back preferring to have chat meant it wasn’t quite as serene as it could’ve been – but the attentiveness from an adoring crowd at this sure-to-be-sold-out show is bound to make up for that.
