Maxine Peake – star of Silk and The Masque of Anarchy – tops the bill in the title role of the Royal Exchange’s re-imagining of Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet, directed by Sarah Frankcom, this September. Often cited as one of the most important pieces of literature in the English canon, the tale of revenge reunites Frankcom and Peake who have previously worked together on Children’s Hour, Miss Julie and the Manchester International Festival hit, The Masque of Anarchy. The play’s revenge-based plot delves heavily in to the human condition and moral relativism, offering a chance for Peake and Frankcom to build on their relationship while giving a fresh voice to this classic.
