DJ and writer Dave Haslam hosts the latest in the Close Up series of onstage interviews with well-known media figures this July. The series continues at Gorilla, with special guest Miranda Sawyer. As an arts broadcaster, Sawyer is a familiar face on our TV screens, and she is also a regular contributor to the Guardian. She will be reading from and discussing her new book Out of Time, which looks at the myths and realities of the mid-life crisis. The book explores how people’s tastes, as well as their bodies, change as they get older. It considers the unexpected pleasures that the latter half of life can offer. In writing the book, Sawyer asked friends, colleagues, musicians and artists how they confronted mid-life, and what lessons (if any) that they learned along the way. Close Up returns on 26 July with Tim Burgess of the Charlatans.
