Tor Festival, a celebration of avant-garde music, is taking place this weekend in the picturesque West Yorkshire town of Todmorden. Weekend passes are already sold out – but tickets are still available for Saturday, when the town’s Unitarian Church will host a full day of gigs. Highlights include: local drone/ambient artist Bridget Hayden; Newcastle-based space punks Lobster Priest; and United Bible Studies, who are described as sounding like Shirley Bassey fronting Black Sabbath. Libations come courtesy of a cocktail caravan, and a bottle bar featuring Thornbridge beers. Food will be provided by a local Thai outlet, The Three Wise Monkeys. This is the first festival organised by Tor Press, a record label and zine publisher. Todmorden is around 40-45 minutes from Manchester by car or train.
