House music connoisseur and international touring DJ Jonna has taken over as Friday night resident at the Northern Quarter’s Blue Pig. Having captured the souls of clubbers from Amsterdam to Mexico, he’s a big name for one of the area’s favourite bars. Already booked to play Dimensions and venues across the US and Far East this year, catch his trademark blend of jazz, funk, disco, techno, hip hop and house every Friday at the Blue Pig. There’s more to enjoy as well with selected brand new cocktails during Blue Pig’s Friday happy hour – which runs all day and night from noon till close. Options on the £5 cocktail list include gin and ginger tastic Bees Knees and rum-based Blood Orange Daiquiri. Blue Pig also stock a unique range of cocktails with ice rinsed in spirits such as Absinthe for a slow, seductive melt. We like the sound of Beefeater 24 Gin, Lillet Blanc, Crème de Violet and Absinthe (Acid Wash) and the 1461, which is Woodford Reserve slowly infused with orange oil and Peychaud bitters – both £5 on a Friday. There’s also a Blue Rinse (Tequila, blue Curacao and lavender seed) plus a range of Boston Shaken style cocktails including The Ristresso Martini (espresso, Crystal Head Vodka and Enosis Mastiha liqueur). Perfect antidotes to the cold outside.

Every Friday, The Blue Pig, 69 High Street, Northern Quarter Manchester, M4 1FS, Tel: 0161 832 0630, 9pm-close, FREE, www.thebluepigmcr.co.uk
