Lost and Found Tour at City Centre (pictured)
This is a walking tour organised by The Men’s Room, an arts charity who work with disenfranchised young men, including the homeless and sex workers. This week they’re running tours of Manchester on Tuesday and Wednesday, to give you an alternative view of the city and share some of the stories that would otherwise pass you by. Make sure you book early, as two of the four sessions are already packed out.
Tue 20 Sep – Wed 21 Sep, from Swan Building, 20 Swan Street, Manchester, M4 5JW. 1pm/6pm, www.eventbrite.co.uk

Stranger Things Quiz at Kosmonaut
Netflix’s 80s throwback sensation Stranger Things has caused quite a stir amongst telly watchers, and it was only a matter of time before an enterprising promoter capitalised on its dense, referential storytelling and its pulsing synth soundtrack. Kosmonaut have a scored a double-whammy here with a Stranger things quiz, followed up by a synth disco. So if you know Gary Numan from your Gary Gygax, this is a great time to stretch your wits and show off your knowledge, with some room for a dance afterwards.
Wed 21 Sep, Kosmonaut, 10 Tariff Street, Manchester, M1 2FF. 7pm – 12am, www.kosmonaut.co

Big Bands at Whitworth Park Residences
The students are back this week, and so you’re bound to be inundated with news of all manner of events geared towards shot-swilling, fresh-faced teenagers. One event that’s a bit more wholesome is this big band double-header, with the MSC Big Band and Conor Littleton’s Not Quite Big Band. Both are groups of talented young swing musicians, both offer a roster of jazz classics and swing covers of popular hits from the past 20 years, and both can be enjoyed in the courtyard of Manchester University’s most Toblerone-shaped residences.
Wed 21 Sep, Whitworth Park Student Residences, 316 Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9WJ. 8pm – 1am, www.facebook.com

Early Years Atelier at The Whitworth
For those of you with young children, this is a great one. The Whitworth’s Clore Learning Studio are running regular weekly Atelier sessions, which are based on the philosophy that art classes should be about free expression, experimentation and play, and where children and adults alike are invited to get in and get messy. Most of these sessions take place on a Monday, but this one-off session, focussed around drawing, is this Thursday afternoon.
Thu 22 Sep, The Whitworth, Oxford Road, Manchester, M15 6ER. Tel: 0161 275 7450, 1pm – 4pm, www.whitworth.manchester.ac.uk
