Levy Market is a thriving weekly celebration of all things locally made, grown and crafted over in Levenshulme. Since launching in 2013 the market has blossomed with footfall and critical acclaim growing in equal measure. It’s also just a really great place to spend your Saturday afternoon. As well as offering street food and themed markets, like the popular fashion and flea market, it’s a social enterprise too. For example, the market only employs local people and pays well above the minimum wage as well as genuinely contributing to Levy’s ever-growing community. In fact £15,000 worth of funds, which were gathered by the market from pitch fees over the last two years have been ploughed back into the community, with nine projects from samosa shacks to a pop up contemporary art centre receiving a piece of the action. For full details, you can read the stories of all the local people and businesses who have received funding here. In recognition of the social enterprise side of the business, the market has been nominated for BBC Food & Farming Award. We think it’s a deserving winner – watch this space for the official announcement on Thursday 30 April 2015.
