This Saturday is the big day – bars, pubs and restaurants will start to open again and (safely practised) socialising outside of your home will really start to kick back into gear. There are still a lot of online events going on, so this week we’ve got a mix of the best free things to do at home and in Manchester, including a socially distanced hike and a virtual night out.

Wilderness Tonic Socially Distanced Hike | Tue 30 Jun | 3.45pm - 6.45pm

Wilderness Tonic, a hiking group based in the North, are celebrating the end of lockdown with a socially distanced hike around New Mills. The hike will take in views over the Kinder plateau, Manchester and Wales, and should take just under two hours – it’s a great way to get a breath of fresh air and meet some new people after lockdown.

XS Malarkey Comedy Online | Tue 30 Jun | 7pm - 10pm

XS Malarkey, Manchester’s comedy night usually hosted at The Bread Shed, are keeping up their online comedy nights for the moment even as lockdown eases. This Tuesday night, MC Toby Hadoke will run the show, with sets from Jasmine Ellis, Richard Herring and loads more comics. It streams on Twitch and you can donate any amount you like to support the acts.

Domestic: Working From Home Performances from Word of Warning | Wed 1 Jul | 8.30pm - 9.30pm

Manchester performance programme Word of Warning present a series of commentaries on where we find ourselves now, all created by artists and performers at home. Featuring movement, spoken word and singing, along with other kinds of performance, there will be six different artists giving their takes on the current situation. Tickets are free but donations are welcome.

Guilty Pleasures Experience | Sat 4 Jul | 9.30pm - 11pm

Guilty Pleasures Experience is bringing a night of good tunes and night out vibes even while many clubs remain closed – and it’s completely free to join in on Zoom. With some live music from Sally McFerran, DJ-ing from Sandra Davenport and Darrelle Lynch keeping everything together, you can have a real party in your on home, so grab a couple of drinks and make it a proper decent Saturday night in.
