Anyone who has been to Ancoats in the past decade will be familiar with the iconic CHIPS building that sits on the edge of the canal, surrounded by the remnants of industrial decline, one of a few buildings that have popped up in the area during the vast regeneration upheaval. CHIPS will be the site for a new Gallery for Contemporary Art, Screaming Gander, that is opening with an exhibition by local photographer, Lee Baxter, who has made the suburb his home, taking photographs of the goings on outside his apartment. As a visual reflection of the changing urban environment, this exhibition of images taken over a 15 month period, documents the ‘Ancoats Riviera’: the flaura and fauna, skylines, people, sunsets, and local wildlife.
