The International Anthony Burgess Foundation is launching a new concert series. Music for Words is a collaboration with the musical ensemble Psappha, and will feature both old and new compositions, alongside poetry, dance and illustration. The series starts on Wednesday 7 January with Scenes from a Novel, a musical setting of texts by the Russian writer Rimma Dalos. Returning on Wednesday 4 February, the series continues with a unique performance of Stravinsky’s theatrical piece The Soldier’s Tale, enhanced with live illustrations. The final event, taking place in Wednesday 18 March, will feature Façade, a series of abstract poems by Dame Edith Sitwell accompanied by the music of local composer William Walton. Each night, there will also be newly commissioned works from the Foundation’s composers in residence.
