The Allotment Vegan Restaurant has opened its doors to much attention and intrigue, with local chef Matthew Nutter looking to put vegan fine dining on the map in the North West. Based in Stockport, a forthcoming winter menu includes starters such as shiitake and chestnut parfait made with sweet red wine shallot reduction and buttery cashew cream, beetroot and balsamic marmalade, raw crackers; mains such as confit thyme flavoured aubergine, buckwheat dumpling, peppercorn gravy with roast potatoes, sage and onion mash, sprouts and greens; finishing with a dessert of buckwheat chocolate orange brownie, orange custard, ‘Aero’ mousse. A far cry from the usual options presented to meat-free eaters. Stockport is a ten minute train journey from Manchester and the walk from station to restaurant, a further ten. Escape the city and be feasting on amazing vegan fare within 20 minutes.
