Quays Culture is an organisation that runs Salford’s expansive public art programme. Working with creatives, both local and global, they aim to bring innovative and avant garde artworks to the open spaces around MediaCity. The group’s latest commission will be hitting the Piazza for 10 days later this month: Unnatural Borders will see four gigantic animal sculptures, each representing a different endangered species, tower over the area on plinths. From 9pm to 11pm every night, there will be a free light show centred on these creatures, where special projectors will dapple them with hypnotic and illusory effects. Unnatural Borders is the work of Sober Industries, a creative production company based in Rotterdam. Specialists in light technology, they have worked with many famous clients, such as Disney and MTV.
