Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that academic and R’n’B fan, Tom Krell (AKA How to Dress Well) divides the critics. His songs reach the parts of ethereality that others fail to reach, swooping in and out of melodies like swallows. And for those who love him, that’s just part of his sprawling appeal. References include Mariah Carey, Frank Ocean and Prince – but Cocteau Twins on an R’n’B overdose is probably closest to the mark. Highlights of his career to date include Total Loss (2012) and Love Remains (2010). One of our favourite records is Lover’s Start, the video for which illustrates how big a part of his show visuals are.
