This October, the BBC Philharmonic invites audiences to step into the soundworld of modern cinema with Moving Pictures, a one-night celebration of 21st century film music that charts a mesmerising voyage through an all-killer-no-filler silver screen set list at The Bridgewater Hall.
Presented by BBC Radio 1’s film critic and viral interviewer Ali Plumb, the programme draws from a dazzling array of contemporary greats, including Hans Zimmer’s exhilaratingly beautiful Cornfield Chase from Interstellar, Hildur Guðnadóttir’s unsettling, tremulous Bathroom Dance from Joker, and Dario Marianelli’s achingly tender Dawn from Pride and Prejudice.
Other highlights include selections from Poor Things (Jerskin Fendrix), Arrival (Jóhann Jóhannsson), and There Will Be Blood (Jonny Greenwood), together forming a thrillingly eclectic celebration of contemporary cinema’s musical titans.
From heartrending romance to taut psychological drama, these boundlessly evocative scores have each redefined the parameters of film music, often transcending their source material to become iconic works in their own right.
