Jodrell Bank invites families to blast off on a wondrous adventure this October half term, with an interstellar line-up of science shows, immersive dome experiences, creative crafts, myth-busting experiments and Martian expeditions.

Running daily throughout the holiday period, an all-new science show offers visitors the chance to tackle the biggest mysteries and myths of the universe, with mind-blowing facts and several surprises. Included with admission.

In the Space Dome, curious cosmonauts can go further than anyone has gone before with the breathtaking new show, One Step Beyond: A Journey to Mars. Narrated by Richard Armitage, this thrilling show explores the challenges and triumphs of humanity’s journey to Mars, from the Artemis programme to the hunt for life beyond Earth. Daily screenings £5 add-on, recommended for ages 5 and up.

On Wed 30 Oct at 11am, infant astronomers can be introduced to enchanting new worlds with Ted’s Space Adventure, a captivating child-friendly special celebrating the magic of space with music, rhyme and sing a long fun, as star-hopping bear Ted and his trusty companion Plant lead a voyage to learn more about the planets around us. Available as a £5 add-on, ideal for ages 2-7.

Elsewhere, Jodrell Bank’s Telescope Talks uncover the remarkable history of the iconic Lovell Telescope, from its significant role in the dawn of the Space Age to revolutionary discoveries of the modern era – rounded off with more heart-stopping live demonstrations. This sit-down show runs daily at 3.30pm, with entry included in your ticket.

Visitors can also get up close to the giant dish in the outdoor Discover the Dish sessions, weather permitting, or catch the Clockwork Orrery in action with special science busking demonstrations from the friendly volunteers.

In celebration of humanity’s dauntless vision, ambition and pioneering spirit, the unmissable temporary exhibition Gemini and Mercury Remastered showcases beautifully restored photography from NASA’s pioneering missions, curated by bestselling author and NASA digital restoration specialist Andy Saunders.

At any point during your visit, budding scientists and apprentice astronauts can take part in drop-in creative sessions at the Space Craft station, before exploring acres of open Cheshire countryside and enjoying a chance to refuel in one of Jodrell Bank’s cafes.
