Chorlton’s much-loved theatre and arts centre, The Edge, has announced the launch of its very own cinema.

The Edge Cinema launches on Thu 13 Nov, hosting everything from global mega hits to classic screenings and indie film festivals.

Promising comfy seats, stylish surroundings and a programme built by the community, for the community, visitors can expect:

  • Popular mainstream films (shown around 3 months after their big cinema release)
  • Themed seasons and film classics
  • World cinema and independent film festivals
  • National Theatre Live Encore screenings
  • Relaxed screenings and accessible showings
  • Saturday morning family cinema

Artistic Director Janine Waters said: “We’re so excited to be bringing cinema to Chorlton. Thanks to our funders’ support, we’ve been able to create something that feels authentic and stylish, the kind of cinema people want to hang out in, discover brilliant films, and share the experience together.”

The Edge has secured a £54,079 grant from Biffa Award, a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to communities and environmental projects across England and Northern Ireland as part of the Government’s Landfill Communities Fund.

Rachel Maidment, Biffa Award Grants Manager, said: ‘New lighting, sound and projection equipment will pave the way to not only expand the cultural and recreational offer for local residents but also create new opportunities for inclusive events, film screenings, and performances – bringing people together and enriching community life.
