A new three-screen independent cinema is set to open its doors in Stretford this week.

The Northern Light Cinema will officially open on Pinnington Lane in the town centre on Fri 20 Mar.

The 150-seat venue will showcase a carefully curated programme of new releases, family favourites, cult classics, events and community-led screenings, and follows the success of its flagship site in Sale. The family-run business also operates the Rex Wilmslow and Savoy Heaton Moor.

Film lovers can enjoy movies with state-of-the-art digital projection and immersive surround sound, designed to deliver exceptional picture clarity and rich, detailed audio across all three screens. The team says that screens will boast comfortable tiered seating, generous legroom and carefully considered sightlines ensure an intimate, high-quality viewing experience in every auditorium.

Each screen has wheelchair space and the Dolby Accessibility Solution (DAS) allows hearing impaired customers to have subtitles for most films delivered to them personally, meaning all shows are accessible for all. There will also be relaxed screenings where lights are left up and volume reduced.

The interiors feature soft lighting, contemporary materials and relaxed lounge areas. A cosy café-bar will serve locally sourced food and drink, offering everything from artisan coffee to evening refreshments.

Opening weekend screenings include Ryan Gosling’s new film Project Hail Mary, and The Bride! starring Jesse Buckley.  There will be a chance to catch BAFTA winners One Battle After Another and Wuthering Heights. There are films for children with GOAT featuring Saturday and Sunday.

Forthcoming events and special screenings will include Saturday Morning Kids Club, plays from the National Theatre, Ballet from The RBO, the Turner & Constable Exhibition and more to follow.

Chris Houghton, Head of Retail & Leisure at Bruntwood, said: “Northern Light Cinema brings an exceptional new cultural destination to Stretford town centre and we’re delighted to see it opening its doors on 20th March. The cinema brings a welcoming and contemporary space to the area and adds a vibrant cultural offer to the town centre. It is set to play an important role in bringing people together, supporting the continued growth and transformation of Stretford.”

Tony Mundin, founder of Northern Light Cinema, added: “The opening of our cinema marks another important step forward in Stretford’s ongoing transformation.  Our venue will bring energy to the town centre and offer a vibrant, welcoming hub for the whole community.”
