After almost 10 years, Manchester art institution Saul Hay Gallery has announced it will be closing its Castlefield gallery, though it softens the sad news by promising a ‘bold new chapter’.
The gallery will depart its current premises following a landmark final exhibition, which will feature 100 artists.
10×10 invites 50 artists from Saul Hay’s past and present to create a piece of work measuring just 10x10cm. Each of these 50 artists will also invite a new artist, one who has never shown at Saul Hey before, to join the show.
The exhibition boasts an impressive roster, including many gallery favourites who have been central to its journey, such as Jen Orpin, Mandy Payne, Steven Heaton, Deborah Grice, and Olga Geoghegan.
Joining them and showing at Saul Hay Gallery for the first time are 50 renowned artists, including Alison Friend, Ghislaine Howard, David Gledhill, Jude Wainwright, and Ben Ark.
Since opening in 2016, the gallery has hosted over 60 exhibitions and established itself as a multidisciplinary cultural hub with live music, poetry readings, and literary launches. As it moves beyond its Victorian walls, Saul Hay Gallery says it remains committed to its founding mission: providing a high-quality platform for the very best in contemporary art, literature and music.
Following the final exhibition, Saul Hay will transition into a dynamic, mobile, and online art venture. The gallery will maintain a robust online platform, ensuring collectors can continue to discover and purchase work through a refined digital gallery experience.
Saul Hay Gallery will also continue to curate physical shows in temporary spaces across Manchester and further afield, bringing contemporary art to new and unexpected environments and expanding the reach of their artists to the widest possible audience.
Saul Hay Gallery’s 10×10 exhibition will run from Sat 13 Jun – Sun 28 Jun.
