Manchester City Council has unveiled a month-long Celebration of Cycling programme that will run throughout June.
Forming part of Manchester’s City of Cycling plans, the initiative seeks to encourage new learners to take their first tentative pedals, shift to greener modes of travel and showcase how cycling can become part of our everyday lives.
The schedule will include cycling training and introductory lessons, bike maintenance and repair, BMX for women and girls, cycling for under-5s, LGBTQ+ cycling events, led rides around Manchester, and more.
Councillor Mandie Shilton Godwin, Executive Member for Clean Air, Environment and Transport, said: “There has never been a better time for Mancunians to get into cycling. Over the past few years, a huge amount of work has gone into improving our cycling landscape. From physical changes on our roads through new cycle lanes and better crossing points, to education and support for people who may not have ridden a bike before.
“But we want to do more, and go further. This is why I’d urge people to get involved with Manchester’s Month of Cycling, connect with like-minded people and help build our city’s burgeoning cycling community.”
Much of Manchester’s Celebration of Cycling Programme is free or low-cost. You can find the full list of events, locations and dates here.
