Mancs versus Scousers in any sport ensures that ‘ouch’ levels are upped a couple of notches – but when it comes to Roller Derby it might be advisable for the crowd to wear as much protection as the players. Manchester Roller Derby, or simply MRD (don’t get confused with the other team from Oldham), host Liverpool Roller Birds on Saturday 14 September in a bout that has been highly anticipated for over a year. In true sports drama style, the rivals are best buddies off-track, whereas up on wheels, the two cities are as tribal as ever. With the Merseysiders expected to bring a big, noisy following to the venue, just off Oxford Road, the atmosphere is set to be as electric as ever at this family-friendly event. Tickets should sell out so get your proverbial skates on – it is, after all, England’s greatest roller derby derby.
