Science and Industry Museum hosts a cosmic After Hours Halloween event

As the nights draw in and Halloween approaches, the Science and Industry Museum is inviting grown-ups to experience its fascinating collection after dark with a special After Hours event on Thu 29 Oct.

Taking place from 7pm-10pm, the adults-only evening promises a a captivatingly cosmic night of live entertainment, interactive games and spooky surprises, with the museum’s galleries and exhibitions taking on a unique atmosphere once the daytime crowds have departed.

Leading the evening’s entertainment, Manchester drag royalty Anna Phylactic will deliver a star-hopping cabaret of live vocals and a monster mash-up soundtrack, alongside a series of galactic photo opportunities inside Horrible Science: Cosmic Chaos. There’s also a close encounter of the robotic kind, with the Robotic Man dancing his way around the museum in an electrifying performance.

For those keen to get involved, the evening’s space-themed games include a giant UFO reaction game, life-size challenges involving aliens and asteroids, and a supersized laser obstacle course. Entry also includes access to the Horrible Science: Cosmic Chaos exhibition, where visitors can embark on a playful journey around the Solar System.

Elsewhere, Power Up provides the perfect excuse to rediscover some childhood favourites, with more than 150 games consoles available for multiplayer battles and high-score challenges. The museum’s permanent galleries will also remain open throughout the evening, from the mighty machinery of Power Hall and the Textiles Gallery to the technological stories of Revolution Manchester and the hands-on thrills of Experiment.

There’ll even be a chance to meet Albert Slime-stein, a larger-than-life monster making an appearance in the Upper Yard as part of the city-wide Halloween in the City monster hunt, while food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including an alien-themed cocktail, will be available to purchase throughout the night.

Whether you fancy getting competitive with some retro gaming, exploring the museum’s industrial treasures after hours or simply enjoying a night of cabaret and fabulously strange entertainment, this Halloween late-night opening offers a distinctly different way to spend a festive autumn evening.
