Part of Manchester Art Gallery’s programme to showcase emerging local talent, explore the intriguing and mischievous world of Alison Erika Forde in her first solo exhibition, The Tallest of Tales. Having graduated from Manchester Metropolitan in 2008, Alison is now represented by local tastemaking gallery International 3, with her unique fusion of unwanted mass-produced pictures and charity shop bric-a-brac being exhibited internationally. In this new exhibition, 12 previously unseen works depicting some sort of dark-humoured fairytale are playfully arranged around a custom built wooden hut that evokes the common fairytale notion that not everything is quite as it seems. Woven with playfulness and folkloric characters, the exhibition draws on dreams transformed into a group of captivating works that confirm Alison as a hugely promising talent – perhaps even the next Rachel Goodyear.
