Celebrating Anthony Burgess: Urgent Copy exhibition at Cornerhouse

Cornerhouse hosts Urgent Copy, a collection of book cover art that reflects on the work of Manchester-born novelist Anthony Burgess, for two months from Thursday 7 November. The exhibition shows how Burgess’ work has been interpreted by a variety of artists through Sam Huddleston’s screenprints, made on unusual and rare material, which through their striking and attractive images demonstrate the range and scope of his work. As well as being a novelist, Burgess was also a poet, playwright, composer, linguist, translator and critic, and is best known for his infamous and influential novel A Clockwork Orange. Burgess’ other work has only recently started gaining critical acclaim from the country and the city he was born in – not thanks to the activities of the neighbouring International Anthony Burgess Foundation. There will an informal launch of the exhibition in the bar (Thu 7 Nov, 6pm, FREE) with complimentary drinks served. Urgent Copy is part of Cornerhouse’s Projects, which priorities affordable artwork, North West-based artists and emerging curators. All the work in this exhibition is for sale.
