Video Jam at Manchester Art Gallery

Manchester Art Gallery is teaming up with one of the city’s most innovative nights, Video Jam, for an immersive programme responding its current exhibition by Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller, All That Is Solid Melts Into Air. Exploring the themes of labour, leisure and community, Deller combines contemporary music, film and photography with 19th Century images and objects to establish how the Industrial Revolution has impacted on British popular culture (see our preview). To mark the end of the exhibition’s run on Saturday 19 January, Video Jam curates a collaborative night to continue the exploration of these themes in a variety of genres. Featuring an eclectic selection of film-makers and live musicians, the programme includes Katharina Huber, Sarah Hill, Oscar-winning film-maker Jack Cardiff and new commissions by Mary Stark and KHOM; accompanied by musical scores from Northern Quarter Boys Choir, David Mclean, Young British Artists, Bernard + Edith and more. The marvel then continues over to Common for the Official Video Jam After ‘Arty’, as the artists carry on the celebration way into the night.
