Over the past two months there has been something missing from our weekly comedy picks: a notable omission on a Tuesday that would usually provide a banker for a great night of live stand-up. Much to the lamentation of their loyal fans, XS Malarkey had to take an enforced sabbatical from comedy after its home at Jabez Clegg was abruptly shut late last year. But those who have followed the good ship Malarkey knew that it wouldn’t be long before they rose again, especially since they have had five venues in the past 16 years of operations. Comedy finds a home wherever XS Malarkey lays its hat. So they now lay it on Grosvenor Street at The Zoo and, to relaunch, they have of course laid on a great spread of comedy for you. MC Toby Hadoke returns to guide the audience through this transition to a new venue with headliner Rob Deering (pictured) delivering pitch-perfect musical comedy, and support from the always hilarious Rob Rouse, Andrew McBurney and Bobby Murdock. A welcome return from a comedy stalwart of the North West scene, which proves once again you can’t keep a good gig down.
