2013 was instrumental in the blowing up of Danny Brown, and the anticipation over his set at Parklife was ridiculous. Respected by the Detroit rap scene but not wanting to be weighed down by expectations about his geographical background, Danny made a conscious effort on recent album Old to work with a variety of producers (Paul White, Rustie, Darq E Freaker, Oh No, A-Trak, BadBadNotGood and Detroit homie SKYWLKR) to push his sound forward, garnering an audience not only of hip hop heads but anyone after a bit of bass. Danny has a huge love for the UK and its music (‘Every time I come here I say that. Like I lived here in a previous life or sum’n’ – check out more of a recent interview I did with Danny) and a rep for ridiculous live shows, so this should tear Gorilla a new one while cementing 2014 as an already legendary year for hip hop bookings in the city.
