This week we have a totally mixed bag of events spanning the entire weekend – think exhibitions, LED lights, live bands, dance, boozers, goody bags and science. All free, of course.
Un-Rest exhibition at Victoria Baths
Enjoy ten days of exhibition, events and participiation as Victoria Baths opens its doors to explore physical expression in sub cultures and dance phenomena. Claiming that ‘how you move is who you are’, Un-Rest combines installations, film, performance and more from contemporary artists including Humberto Valez, Another Adele, Ivan Capote, Bethany Cassidy, Wayne England, Naomi Kendrick, Dominique Tessier, William Titley and Alison Kershaw, whose work will look at how Manchester and the North connect with the world in the visual and sensual realms. Admission to the launch event on Thu 24 Apr and the exhibition itself is free, but there are also several events including an Open Day that are subject to charges.

Fly 53 Music Series 04 at Kraak
It’s a bit of rarity to find good, free nightlife in Manchester, but this weekend boasts a bit of a corker as clothing and music fiends Fly 53 return with a musical takeover at Kraak. As the fourth in their music series, this Friday’s event welcomes live electronic rave-funk-dub-disco-punk band Age of Glass (pictured) and sequencer blues band Walk. There will also be some complimentary drinks and goody bags on offer, meaning that this could be one of the cheapest nights out you’ve had in a long time. Pi: Platform for Investigation at MOSI
This weekend MOSI launches a monthly contemporary science programme built around a unique, flexible pop-up space. By fusing the artistic with the scientific, the Platform for Investigation will become the museum’s hub for visitors to creatively explore science, allowing everyone to get hands-on with an upcoming programme of events and live experiments. For Saturday’s launch event, the team who designed the tactile, movable space will explore the technology that powers it and the design processes that took palce, and you will also be able to control the colourful Arduinos-powered LED light shows that run around the Platform for Investigation.

Whitworth Pub Crawl Knees Up at The Jolly Angler
The Whitworth Pub Crawl is a series of events taking the creativity and art out of the gallery and into the public as The Whitworth building is refurbished – and this Sunday it’s the turn of ethio-trad, folk-hop Manchester band Honeyfeet, who are hosting an afternoon of vocals and bevvies at The Jolly Angler. Members from the band will respond to Hogarth’s A Rake’s Progress painting series with folk songs specifically written for the occasion, and all that’s required of you is to form their impromptu backing choir to create a unique and interactive gig. With everything housed in one of Manchester’s loveliest traditional public houses, this promises to be a perfect way to spend a leisurely afternoon, as the weekend ebbs away into Monday…
