United in Anger: A history of ACT UP screening + Q&A at Cornerhouse

Though the struggles facing LGBT campaigners today may vary wildly from those faced by their counterparts 30 years ago, it is encouraging and vital to reflect on past battles won. One such battle is the frontline fight against the AIDS crisis, which forms the basis of Jim Hubbard’s passionate 2012 documentary, United in Anger: A History of ACT UP. The film, screened at Cornerhouse as part of the University of Manchester’s annual Sexuality Summer School, chronicles the birth and lifespan of the political movements borne from the crisis in 1980s New York. Featuring a conventional mix of newsreel footage and talking heads, this special screening is accompanied by a Q&A with director Hubbard plus Richard Dyer of King’s College London and Monica Pearl of Manchester University.
