The Picnic Cinema Tour, an outdoor film festival, returns this summer with an eclectic mix of films in rural English locales. Forests, castles and courtyards will be transformed into screening locations for comedies, horrors and cult films over July and August. Attendees can also camp out, often in places where they would not usually be allowed to stay. The season begins in style with three screenings of Withnail & I (Thu 3 – Sat 5 Jul) in the courtyard of Uncle Monty’s Cumbrian cottage, Sleddale Hall. Tickets are limited to only 100 people per screening, and are only for those prepared to camp overnight. There are several other screenings in Cumbria in July, including The Woman in Black at Lowther Castle (Wed 16 Jul) and The Shining at Muncaster Castle (Fri 18 Jul), plus The Blair Witch Project will be screening in North Yorkshire’s Dalby Forest (Wed 23 Jul). The tour returns to the North West in mid-August, with events including 28 Days Later at Gisburn Forest (Wed 13 Aug) and Monty Python’s Life of Brian at Grizedale Forest (Fri 15 Aug).
