Free things to do this weekend, ft. Blackjack, Chandelier of Lost Earrings and Fluxus

Apparently there’s some fancy-pants music festival going on down south, and despite the fact that everyone’s sliding around in mud we’re somehow still jealous. But fear not, as Manchester’s got plenty on this weekend and, unlike the merrymaking below the border, the events listed here are free.

Blackjack Brewtap
Blackjack Brewtap is back! This weekend the brewery opens its gates once again for a big old party with food, music and a cracking beer line-up including kegs from Siren, Harbour, Wild Beer Co., Moor and more – and even an exciting launch from Runaway Brewery as they introduce their first ever kegged beer. Hungry crowds will be sorted reet out by a Greek-style BBQ menu featuring things like whole chargrilled seabass and souvlaki, and Saturday sees local Arepa Arepa Arepa join the party with their popular stuffed South American flatbreads.

We mention the Levy Market quite a lot (we’re not sorry), but this weekend sees a slightly special addition to an already winning formula. In addition to your favourite traders and makers, you’ll also find local artists Lauren Sagar and Sharon Campbell as they try to drum up support for their current project, The Chandelier of Lost Earrings, which has made it to the finals of The National Lottery Awards. The Awards are an annual search to find the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects and may be the perfect opportunity to promote the talent we have here in the North West, so why not head down and show some support?

Fluxus at Contact
Brought to you by Contact Theatre’s young producing and programming team, Re: CON, Fluxus is a multidisciplinary arts event combining music, film, installation and performance. Featuring work from all over the UK, the evening seeks to blur the lines between the various practices and in doing so creating an immersive, innovative experience for the audience, with a line-up including electronic artist James Joys, contemporary dance from Green Tea Visions, a blend of movement, text and sound from Will Dickie and lots more.
