Deer Tick’s rasp-voiced singer and chief songwriter John McCauley recently declared his two favourite bands to be The Replacements and The California Raisins. Substitute that latter cartoon band for your country-rock band of choice and that’s close to the sound of the Rhode Island quartet. Brash rock ‘n’ roll energy meets plaintive reflection and drinking songs. Live they take their ragged indie-rock alt-country to more rowdy and raucous levels. Raise a glass to drowning sorrows and to rocking out.
