Fourth Floor Film Night is a weekly cinema club entering its 53rd week of films. To mark the beginning of the Film Night’s second year of screenings, they will be showing Trimpin: The Sound of Invention. Having only been shown in London and Leeds, the show marks a first for the North West. Directed by Peter Esmonde, the film is a documentary profile of the eccentric and highly creative artist/inventor/engineer/composer, Trimpin. Renowned in artistic and musical circles, his freewheeling sound sculptures and kinetic experiments have been influential. Filmed over the course of two years, the documentary follows Trimpin’s various creative endeavours, including a collaboration with Kronos Quartet on electronic and toy instruments, developing a 25-year retrospective of his work and building a 60-foot tower of electric guitars. Screened in the fourth floor of Hotspur House, an artists studio complex, the evening promises to reveal both the workings of Trimpin’s own studio and offer an insight into one of the many creative spaces in Manchester city centre.
