Manchester Pride isn’t just a weekend affair – there’s a full month of celebrations planned as part of the Pride Fringe. A full list of the events and activities can be found here, but here is our Top 3 of the Fringe…
Cabaret at The Grill
This Thursday, The Grill on New York Street is hosting a charity fundraising dinner. The evening begins with a sparkling drinks reception, followed by a four-course meal include fois gras and sirloin steak options. Over dinner, there will be a cabaret performance from drag artist La Roux. The sassy singer was a semi-finalist of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent, and has performed in the West End, and events in front of royalty. £10 from each ticket goes to Manchester Pride. The Great Village Bake-Off
The Great Village Bake-Off returns to the Fringe for another year, at The Molly House on Richmond Street. Entrants will be cooking up a storm to try and win the LGBT baking competition of the year, while simultaneously raising money for the Pride Community Fund. There will be a variety of prizes to be won -and the judging panel will be led by Howard Middleton, a finalist in the BBC’s last Great British Bake Off season. The best news is that all entries will be available to sample once judging has taken place. Entry to the venue is free – but it’s £5 to enter a cake. All abilities and ages are encouraged to participate.

Retro Silent Disco at BackDoor
On the eve of the big weekend, BackDoor (under Bar Pop), will be host to the hugely popular Retro Silent Disco. Dancers will be lent a special pair of headphones that can play three different channels of music: cheesy glam and disco from the 1970s; new romantic and new wave from the 1980s; and Britpop and club classics from the 1990s. Whenever there’s a song you’re not into, just hit the button and change the decade. People with different musical tastes will get the chance to party together, all without disturbing the neighbours.
Thu 21 Aug, BackDoor, Richmond Street, M1 3HZ, 10pm – 3am, £6, www.skiddle.com
