The Waterside Arts Centre in Sale is celebrating its 10th birthday with 10 special events including a performance mounted on a barge showboat (Tug) and an interactive take on the silent disco (Gatecrash). Tug (pictured) is set on a barge that’s been kitted out for the occasion and guests will travel between the Arts Centre and Stretford Metrolink experiencing the unexpected. If boats aren’t your bag, you can walk alongside the boat for free getting a slice of the action (Fri 26- Sun 28 Sep, times vary, £10, watersideartscentre.co.uk). Gatecrash (Thu 2 Oct, 6pm & 8pm, from £6, watersideartscentre.co.uk) sees Zest Theatre explore the boundaries of silent disco technology with the help of the audience/partygoers/gatecrashers of ‘Sam’s house’ to immersive effect. Listening into other’s conversations and take your place on the dance floor – or in the corner. There’s also a family-friendly festival (Sat 13 Sep, 11am-5pm, FREE) to launch the birthday celebrations. Later in the Autumn season, Wire favourite Will Self visits the Arts Centre as keynote speaker at the Northern Lights Writers Conference (Sat 25 Oct, times TBC, from £25, www.creativeindustriestrafford.org).
