Whilst there are some fairly high profile free events taking place this weekend (namely the Buy Art Fair / Manchester Contemporary and the Asia Triennial), here are some alternatives that sit slightly off the beaten track.

Pause Collective exhibition at Kraak
Hailing from across the UK, Pause is a new collective of artists Matthew Cotton, Helen Carter and Emily Naish. This week they host their first exhibition at the city’s ultimate alt-space Kraak, where a mix of painting, drawing, sculpture and film will be displayed across the weekend. Featuring the work of 11 artists and creatives, the exhibition will showcase the talents of recent graduates from Falmouth University including Marie Caldecott, Lizzy Barnes, Helen Carter, Alex Heath, Lucia Jones and others.
Fri 26 (private view) – Sun 28th Sep, Kraak, 11 Stevenson Square, M1 1DB, 10am – 5pm (private view 6 – 10pm), FREE, pausecollective.tumblr.com

The return of Guerrilla Eats
This Saturday sees the long-awaited return of Manchester’s favourite street food event, as Guerrilla Eats settles into its new location in Ancoats ahead of a new weekly schedule. Originally due to re-launch last week, this postponed bash has only made us hungrier, and with well-loved names like Hip Hop Chip Shop, Dirty Dogs, Barnhouse Bistro, Fish &, Banh Mi Booth and Fire & Salt BBQ teaming up with newbies such as Beastys, Smokin’ Hot Tamales, Rudy’s Pizza and Mei Mei’s Street Cart, the lineup is positively stellar. Sat 27 Sep, Ground Floor, Fairbairn Building, Blossom Street, Ancoats, M4 5AF, FREE entry, www.guerrillaeats.co.uk

An Evening With Ren Harvieu (pictured)
As Manchester Food and Drink Festival enters its final hours (that’s a point: where the hell has September gone?), wave a fond farewell with a set from Salford singer-songwriter Ren Harvieu. With a beauty that transcends far beyond her striking looks into her sumptuous music, there seems no act more appropriate to close the Festival Hub. Having progressed an impressively long way since her beginnings in Broughton, it’s also a good chance to catch Ren on stage for free whilst you still can.
Sun 28 Sep, Manchester Food and Drink Festival Hub, Albert Square, M2 5DB, Starts 7.30pm, FREE, www.foodanddrinkfestival.com
