The Women in Comedy festival continues its eclectic vibe with this show from surreal space clown Cheekykita. Fresh from a critically acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe, she takes the audience for a ride across the space-time continuum. This award-winning show will be helped by Jayne Edwards and Kate McCabe in support – but neither can really prepare you for the ‘Wow of Space’ from Cheekykita, who is a truly unique performer. Be sure to stick around after for a comedy showcase featuring Zoe Iqbal, Madge Hooks, Lizzy Galbraith and Mel Medford.

Jason Manford’s comedy clubs continue to offer top billings for reasonable prices and are coaxing some of the big acts to the North. Lumberjack choirboy Lloyd Griffith headlines -but it is support act Adam Hess that you should really keep an eye out for. Anarchic one-liners and bizarre turns of phrase spew forth from this great comic mind – Hess is one to watch for the future. Marlon Davis will also be attendance to round out a cracking line-up rarely seen outside of the capital.

Jo Enright | The King’s Arms, Salford | Sun 19 Oct | 9.30pm | £8
Though she may be more recognisable from roles alongside Peter Kay in Phoenix Nights, Steve Coogan in I’m Alan Partridge or recently playing Angela in ITV’s The Job Lot, Jo Enright is heading back to her first love of stand-up comedy. Another show in the Women in Comedy cannon, Enright is a fantastic writer and performer who you can catch in this intimate setting at The King’s Arms. Likened to Julie Walters by Kay, she is a master of character and builds heartwarming and hilarious stories through her wonderful perfomances.

John Kearns (pictured) | The Pub/Zoo | Tue 21 Oct | 7.30pm | £5/£3
John Kearns followed up winning the Foster’s Best Newcomer Award in 2013 by winning the Best Comedy Award at the 2014 Fringe. A natural progression you might say. For a man that almost practices anti-comedy to have won two of the arts most prestigious awards is even more impressive. Kearns makes a point of splitting audiences and will not be to everyone’s tastes – but if you get on board with his ‘schtick’ then you’re in for a real treat.

Lou Conran and Harriet Dyer | Bangkok Bar | Wed 22 Oct | 8pm | Donations
Two of Manchester’s funniest comedians who also happen to be women are putting on a ‘pay what you want’ show, where you must do just that. Though come the end, you may be more out of pocket than had you gone to a club with a door charge. Lou Conran brings her show ‘Subject Matter’ – a title reached because Lou has no idea what it is about. It’s a selection of short stories about nothing in particular – the only thing that they have in common are that they’re all hilarious. Harriet Dyer brings her Earl-inspired show ‘My Name is Harriet’, which aims to put all the wrongs she’s done right. Which might take some time. A great stand-up double bill for less than the cost of a pint. Or more. It’s up to you really.

Luisa Omeilan | Waterside Arts Centre, Sale | Thu 23 Oct | 8pm | £12
Replacing Jesus with Beyonce is not a new thing -many worship at the feet of Bey – but in Luisa Omeilan’s show, What Would Beyonce Do, she takes it to another level as she attempts to live every day in a manner that Mrs Carter might. Not always the graceful success that the former Destiny’s Child member seems to be, Omeilan works hard to learn from the songs and shows that they can be applied to a real world situation.
